Driver’s Profile – Basis for Premium Charges
Gender: Men drive more miles per year than women and have higher accident involvement. Insurance companies refer to lower accident rate in keeping the youth surcharge lower for young women drivers than for young male drivers, but adult rates are generally the same.
Age: Teenage drivers without driving record have higher car insurance premiums. Young drivers are offered discounts if they take further driving courses, such as the UK Pass Plus. Many insurers in the U.S. offer discount to students with good academic record and resident student discounts to those who live away from home. Senior drivers because of lower average miles driven are often eligible for retirement discounts.
