Sexual discrimination can rear its ugly head in many different forms and situations. This can even include basic car insurance. Just recently, the European Union’s highest court has announced that it is stopping the insurance industry from imposing different insurance rates for men and women. The court said that this practice is tantamount to sexual discrimination. One of the more prevalent examples of this unfair practice is increased car insurance costs imposed on women even if they are considered safer motorists.
The insurance companies has agreed to the new policy but only grudgingly, saying that their policies are fair when looking at the statistics they use to arrive at the rates.
